ENALA NYAU – LSZ – 003
I was born June 15, 2001 into a family of five. I am in grade nine at Lukata Primary School. I and my family live in Lukata Village with my mum and dad. Due to the economic status of our family both of my parents are not financially able to support the education of my siblings and myself. My parents are farmers who only grow enough for consumption. My parents stopped me from attending school because they wanted me to get married to a man who was older than me because they wanted money to feed the family.
I had to stay for two years without going to school because I dropped out of school in order to get married and help my family’s financial burden. It was during the two years I spent in the village without going school I heard about the program “Ending Child Marriage” in Lukata village which was being implemented by LifeSavers. LifeSavers trained and counseled me and told about the importance of education. They rescued me from being married off by my parents and under the “Sponsor A Child” program by LifeSavers Zambia, I had the opportunity to return to school and am so glad and thankful. My ambition is to become a teacher one day. At school I like to participate in athletics (running). I have been selected to represent my country in Zimbabwe because I beat all my competitors in my category during inter provincial competitions.
