Child of the month – April

Erica Tembo, is a teen withdrawn from child marriage.

Taking care of her 3 year old daughter is a challenge as her grandmother whom she lives with is a small scale farmer.  Erica decided to go back to school when Hope’s Doorway supported her until sponsorship and she has passed the ninth grade!  She wishes to continue in school until graduation so that she can get a good job and take good care of her daughter.  Her favorite subject is English and she would like to be a teacher so she can help others learn and stay in school.

There are many children with similar stories as Erica. Advocacy for Child Justice (ACJ) who has the LifeSavers Program has been implementing the “Child Protection Project” which is combating child marriage and child prostitution. Through various interventions such as awareness campaigns, rehabilitation of the children and advocacy, LifeSavers managed to withdraw 129 children from child marriage and prostitution in John Howard community (Lusaka) and Lukata Village where child marriage and child prostitution has been on the rise.

Erica is excited to hear she has been sponsored so she can continue in school.  Sponsor Erica for a monthly $39.
