Child of the Month – October

Greetings from Zambia.

My name is Rosina, I was born April 17, 2001, in Lukata village, in the Central Province of Zambia. I was born in a family of five children, I am the second born. I have had difficulties in my life due to poverty that has hit my family so hard due to father’s drinking habits. My dad also gets violent against mum, which makes me feel very bad. I wasn’t able to continue with school due lack of support as my mother’s business collapsed because dad stole all her money. Mother was running a small business by the roadside. It was at this point that I started thinking of getting married so I would escape poverty and be away from abusive dad. When LifeSavers came to Lukata with the Ending Child Marriage and Prostitution project, I learned about the consequences of getting married at my age. After attending workshops and counseling sessions, I realized the importance of education and that I can still live a better life. In January of 2017, I decided to re-enter school because LifeSavers paid school fees so far but now I need a sponsor so I can complete 11 th grade this year and go on to the 12th grade in January and then graduate December 2020. I am working very hard in school so can be a police officer when I graduate. I want to help my community by arresting all those who break the law.
