Maria is 11 years old and has never been to school, she lives with her grandmother who is taking care of both Maria and her older brother. Maria’s mother was wrongly incarcerated when she was a younger. Her mother’s accusers had her arrested for child abuse pointing her first son’s deformity (on his leg) as scars or wounds of abuse. Unfortunately she could not adequately prove to the court that her son was born with the deformity on his leg. So Maria and her brother became the responsibility of their grandmother who has not been well and is just recovering. When her mother was released from incarceration she failed to find employment so she got married hoping that her new husband would take care of her family, which was not the case. After she got married her husband refused to take care of her children so they still live with their grandmother.
